From June 6th to June 7th, 2025, the 5th Annual HPRBA Derby & Futurity took place in Amarillo, Texas.

This year marked the 5th edition of the Derby, held on the event’s opening day, and the 14th running of the Futurity, which took place on the second day alongside a horse sale. The event featured a guaranteed $35,000 payout, supplemented by a range of additional prizes.

In the reined cow horse discipline, Legendary Stakes competitors claimed multiple purses. In the open derby division, the horse DC Fancy Like, sired by Deeper Shade Of Blu, and the rider Orren Koontz each earned 9 points and both won 2 purses. In the open futurity, the horse Sweet And Shady, sired by Deeper Shade Of Blu, earned 9 points and won 2 purses. DC Fancy Like’s sire, dam, and breeder each received $50 in royalties for the entries. Sweet And Shady’s sire, dam, and breeder each received $25 in royalties for the entries.
